Why the Sacrifice of Christ?

Why the Sacrifice of Christ? 615 "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous." By his obedience unto death , Jesus accomplished the substitution of the suffering Servant, who "makes himself an offering for sin", when "he bore the sin of many", and who "shall make many to be accounted righteous", for "he shall bear their iniquities". Jesus atoned for our faults and made satisfaction for our sins to the Father. Why obedience unto death ? 602 ...Man's sins, following on original sin, are punishable by death .... 609 By embracing in his human heart the Father's love for men, Jesus "loved them to the end", for "greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." How does Jesus death work for us ? 618 The cross is the unique sacrifice of Christ, the "one mediator between God and men". But because in...

Do you deserve going to Heaven?

Do you think you deserve like the Presidential Medal of Freedom?  Do you think you deserve like the Nobel Prize? (And no one is insane enough to say "yes" to that. People say "of course not") But you do think you deserve going to Heaven? Joe Heschmeyer, Mar 25 2022 The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award bestowed by the president of the United States to recognize people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." The Nobel Prizes are awarded to "those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to Mankind."

Suggestions regarding the recitation of the Rosary

APOSTOLIC LETTER ROSARIUM VIRGINIS MARIAE OF THE SUPREME PONTIFF JOHN PAUL II 12. The Rosary, precisely because it starts with Mary's own experience, is an exquisitely contemplative prayer. Without this contemplative dimension, it would lose its meaning, as Pope Paul VI clearly pointed out: “Without contemplation, the Rosary is a body without a soul , and its recitation runs the risk of becoming a mechanical repetition of formulas, in violation of the admonition of Christ: 'In praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think they will be heard for their many words' (Mt 6:7). By its nature the recitation of the Rosary calls for a quiet rhythm and a lingering pace , helping the individual to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord's life as seen through the eyes of her who was closest to the Lord. In this way the unfathomable riches of these mysteries are disclosed”.(14) 30. In order to supply a Biblical foundation and greater depth to our meditation,...

Expressions of Prayer

Catechism: 2704 ... Prayer is internalized to the extent that we become aware of him "to whom we speak;"4 Thus vocal prayer becomes an initial form of contemplative prayer. 2705 Meditation is above all a quest. The mind seeks to understand the why and how of the Christian life... 2708 ... Christian prayer tries above all to meditate on the mysteries of Christ, as in lectio divina or the rosary ... 2709 " Contemplative prayer [oracion mental] in my opinion is nothing else than a close sharing between friends" ... In this inner prayer we can still meditate , but our attention is fixed on the Lord himself.

Lent and penance

lent = Ash + Thu + Fri + Sat + 5 weeks + Palm Sun + Mon + Tue + Wed      = 4 + 5*7 + 4 = 43 days penance = lent - Sundays + Holy Thu + Good Fri + Sat         = 43 - 6 + 3 = 40 days

Mortal sin and consent

 Catechism 1857 For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: "Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent." 1859 Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God's law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin. 1860 Unintentional ignorance can diminish or even remove the imputability of a grave offense. But no one is deemed to be ignorant of the principles of the moral law, which are written in the conscience of every man. The promptings of feelings and passions can also diminish the voluntary and free character of the offense, as can external pressures or pathological disorders. Sin committed through malice, by deliberate choice of evil, is the g...

What is the homily?

Christ’s preaching: Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing" ( Lk 4:21) Homily is an integral part of the liturgy. Homily is an act of worship, to glorify God (not only sanctify the people) 6. I’t not: Speech Lecture Preaching about some issue completely unrelated to the liturgical celebration Preaching to fit some preconceived idea Exegesis Catechetical instruction Preacher’s own story 7. Elements in a homily: topical themes, biblical exegesis, doctrinal instruction, and personal witness 9. What, then, is the homily? Preaching based on the biblical passages and the prayers used in a liturgical celebration. Preaching that proclaims God’s wonderful work of our salvation in Christ (Christ’s Paschal Mystery) Must always lead the community of the faithful to celebrate the Eucharist actively. Movements The preacher sp...

Why the precept: receive the Eucharist at least during Easter?

Regarding Catechism 2042 If the first precept is: You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor Why do we need the third precept: You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season ? Clue from Catechism of Trent (page 159): How Often Must Communion Be Received? Lest any be kept away from Communion by the fear that the requisite preparation is too hard and laborious, the faithful are frequently to be reminded that they are all bound to receive the Holy Eucharist. Furthermore, the Church has decreed that whoever neglects to approach Holy Communion once a year, at Easter, is liable to sentence of excommunication. Preparation of Body (page 158): Fasting from the preceding midnight Abstain from the marriage debt for some days previous to Communion Preparation of Soul (page 158): Venerate the Presence Ask if we are at peace and love our neighbor Confession Reflect how unworthy we are Question whether we can say wit...
