Will of God vs glory of God

In all our designs and enterprises, says a great servant of God, we should rather purpose to do the will of God than to procure the glory of God, for by doing the will of God, we will infallibly procure His glory; but if we propose as the motive of our actions to work for the glory of God, we may sometimes allow ourselves to be deceived and do our own will under the pretext of working for the glory of God. Oh! how common is this kind of illusion in those who are employed in good works and in ministries of zeal for souls! Real perfection, about which there can be no mistake, consists in accomplishing the will of God; but how few are those who are sufficiently enlightened to know the excellence of this perfection, or sufficiently pure to taste its sweetness!
