Living water

John 4 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” john 7 37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, “If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. 38 He who believes in me, as[e] the scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit , which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. About asking for earthly things: John 4 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” Luke 11 9 And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father amo...

The rich man and Lazarus (Hell or Purgatory)

The rich didn't want his family to suffer the same torments for being unrepentant : He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this place of torment.' But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.' He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent. ' Catechism 1859: Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God's law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart 133 do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin. 133 Cf. Mk 3:5-6; Lk 16:19-31 . Why the rich's concern for his father's house? “[The damned’s] punishment would be greater if all their kindred were damned, and others save...

Exchange of peace

CDWDS Circular Letter on the Ritual Expression of the Gift of Peace at Mass With this gesture, whose “function is to manifest peace, communion and charity,” the Church “implores peace and unity for herself and for the whole human family, and the faithful express to each other their ecclesial communion and mutual charity before communicating in the Sacrament” GIRM 82. The Rite of Peace follows, by which the Church asks for peace and unity for herself and for the whole human family, and the faithful express to each other their ecclesial communion and mutual charity before communicating in the Sacrament. John 14 25 “These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things,[d] and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afr...

Salvation of infants who die without Baptism

THE HOPE OF SALVATION FOR INFANTS WHO DIE WITHOUT BEING BAPTISED 102. ...  Our conclusion is that the many factors that we have considered above give serious theological and liturgical grounds for hope that unbaptised infants who die will be saved and enjoy the Beatific Vision. We emphasise that these are reasons for prayerful  hope , rather than grounds for sure knowledge... 103. What has been revealed to us is that the ordinary way of salvation is by the sacrament of Baptism. None of the above considerations should be taken as qualifying the necessity of Baptism or justifying delay in administering the sacrament. [135]   Rather, as we want to reaffirm in conclusion, they provide strong grounds for hope that God will save infants when we have not been able to do for them what we would have wished to do, namely, to baptize them into the faith and life of the Church. Catechism 1261  As regards  children who have died without Baptism , the Church can only entrust ...
