The First Commandment

I. "You Shall Worship the Lord Your God and Him Only Shall You Serve"

Faith
2087 obedience of faith as our first obligation
2088 nourish our faith
2088 protect our faith
2088 don't doubt, disregard or refuse Revelation or Church teaching
2089 submission to the Roman Pontiff
2089 don't refuse communion with the members of the Church

Hope
2090 hope that God will give the capacity to love Him (be a saint)
2090 fear of offending God's love
2090 fear of punishment
2092 don't presume upon God's mercy (forgiveness without conversion and glory without merit).

Charity
2093 love God above everything
2094 sins againt the love of God: indifference, ingratitude, lukewarmness, acedia(refuse the joy), hatred of God (why sins are bad? why punishment?)

II. "Him Only Shall You Serve"

Virtue of religion
2096 Adoration (Creator vs creature: Magnificat)
2098 Prayer accomplishes faith+hope+charity
2098 Prayer is adoration
2098 Prayer is a condition to obey God
2099 true sacrifice = action to cling to God
2101 Fidelity to promises
2104 seek and embrace the truth: God and his Church
2104 respect for different religions' ray of truth
2104 treat with love those in error or ignorance
2105 a Christian should awaken in each man the love of the true and the good
2105 make known the worship of the one true religion: Catholic Church

III. "You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me"

2111 Superstition: attribute efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance
2112 Idolatry = revere a creature: power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money
2115 Divination: unhealthy curiosity about the future
2115 Improvidence: lack of responsibility
2117 Wearing charms is reprehensible
2119 Tempting God: putting his goodness and almighty power to the test
2120 Sacrilege: treating unworthily the sacraments, persons, things, or places consecrated to God.
2121 You received without pay, give without pay
2122 contribute to the support of the Church's ministers

atheism:
2124 materialism: restricts aspirations to space and time
2124 humanism: man to be "an end to himself, and the sole maker, with supreme control, of his own history."
2124 liberation of man through economic and social liberation
2125 atheism's imputability on Believers: careless about instruction in the faith, or present its teaching falsely, or even fail in their religious, moral, or social life, they must be said to conceal rather than to reveal the true nature of God and of religion.
2128 Agnosticism: indifferentism, a flight from the ultimate question of existence, and a sluggish moral conscience.

IV. "You Shall Not Make For Yourself a Graven Image . . ."

2132 honor sacred images
